Brok's Forge

UNST-133 Work of Art || Professor Sarah Newlands

For this project, i was supposed to make a brand identity deck for a made up brand. I created
an identity for a maker space named Brok’s Forge. My original idea was to make it a place where
they teach historical techniques on how to blacksmith, woodwork, and other similar fields.
The name of my brand comes from one of the dwarves that forged Thor’s hammer. For the
logos, I decided to use Elder Futhark runes which are ancient runes that are basically the Nordic alphabet.
My other idea which was the one i eventually ended up using was similar, it was for the more
labor intensive arts, but it didn't exclusively use old techniques. is idea had a more fantastical feel
to it rather than a more rugged look.
My icons are both derived from historical nds. e cross symbol is a design that is on the
Lingsburg Stone in Sweden. e other is based o of the Nordic practice of inscribing runes into
objects to give them certain powers. Such as good luck or prosperity, essentially a good luck charm.
For my color palette, i wanted something so and pleasant on the eyes. For this i decided to go
with a pastel scheme. I chose to use a mix of blues to oranges so i could use one color to contrast
the other in my designs.
for the overall feel of the brand I wanted it to be something that was pleasant to look at, but at
the same time still based in historical fact, hence the symbols. I wanted it to feel like a fantasy
world, for the oce if i made it, i would plan for it to be modeled similarly to the fantasy exhibit at
the MoPOP museum in Seattle. e furniture and decorations are made out of trees and organic
materials, to make the space feel natural. is would also make sense if the place was based in his-
torical fact as they did not have industrial steel or mass produced objects.
