For this project, we were supposed to make a piece based on a phrase that we chose. Although most others chose to do English phrases, I decided to go with an Icelandic saying, “Kemst þó hægt fari”. which means that even if you move slowly you will still reach your destination.
For my first image, I decided to show the struggle that progress requires. people move through obstacles at different rates and therefore even if you move slowly, you will still make it. I emphasized this by drawing a man walking through a blizzard, leaving footprints behind him to show that even when it doesn't feel as if he is progressing, he can look behind him to see that he is.
My second image that I did was simple, a snail moves slowly and they leave a trail of slime, so i made it so the snails trail spelled out the phrase. I decided to go with a very nature and earthy feeling to this one to go along with the snail.
For my image based design i decided to make it out of sticks that i found and cut in my backyard. i used these since trees grow slowly but due to their long lifespans they are the heaviest living thing.
For the vector based one, I wanted to go with a simple design that draws on the story of the tortoise and the hair, I created a simple design that shows the hare sleeping and the tortoise passing him, signifying that even though he’s slower he will still reach his destination.
